ramblings of an old school player:

i started playing basketball really early. i remember going with my dad to warren park for his practices when he used to play. of course, this was before his career ending sprained ankle. lol. we would play at the park and at family parties all the time. i guess you can say, it's in the family.

i officially tried out for my grade school in fifth grade. Javier Magana saw me playing the quarterback with the boys at recess one time. of course, i was the biggest tom boy ever. i figured playing with the boys - even if it was football - was better than standing against the gate with the girls, shaking my butt off from the cold. he says to me, if i like to pass the ball, i should come and try out for the girls basketball team. i figured why not.

without going into the details, i didn't make it right away. this is by no means a michael jordan-esque story. after all, i'm a software engineer now ... not some fancy schmancy professional basketball player. i did meet some good people, and made some life long friends. it even helped me with my experience for playing high school basketball.

in high school, i played for lane tech and for triple threat in the pba. high school hoop was the shiz. i will never forget it, and am really good friends with many of you. pba was fun too. good stuff. now, i just hoop in leagues at work, co-ed leagues on north avenue, and with whoever wants to pick me up for a game or two. i've definitely slowed down after my knee injuries, but i love the game. no one will ever be able to take that from me.

on a random note, i also started running. it's my great new hobby. i've been in quite a few 5ks and mini runs. i did the lasalle chicago marathon in october of 2006. i didn't have many cats their for support, but sher and don showed up at the end. i have some pics to get together and post up, but by far, that was a life changing experience.
